San Vigilio is a small, charming village in Val Badia, and is a flagship tourist destination in Trentino Alto Adige, Italy. It is located in a wide valley at 1,201 meters above sea level. To its north are the mountains "Kronplatz" (2,275 m), "Piz da Peres" (2,507 m), and Mount "Paraccia" (2,438 m). The south is dominated by Mount "Pares" (Ladin: Sas de crust, 2396m) and the wooded "Piz de Plaies" (1,700 m). Piz de Plaies can be easily reached by gondola, where the summit called Giogo (Ladin Jù, 1,620 m), offers a lovely view of Val Badia. San Vigilio is part of the tourist destination Plan de Corones and a part of the UNESCO national park of Fanes - Senes - Braies.
The village reflects the soul of the Ladin valley in its traditional houses (les viles) and craft shops. Its bars and restaurants offer visitors the opportunity to sample local culture and specialties. For example, an aperitif, 'Hugo', accompanied by Tultres, a fried stuffed dough, is a great way to experience the flavours of Ladin culture.The natural, peaceful and beautiful Dolomites offer endless possibilities for leisure activities.
In summer, visitors can hike the many marked trails, go mountain biking or horseback riding in the Fanes, Senes, and Braies. For those who want to relax, we recommend Ciamaor, located along the river, which is an ideal location for having fun with your children on the beach. As an alternative, we suggest visiting one of the numerous wellness centres available. For adventure-seekers, we recommend a ride on the Zip Line to experience the thrill of being launched along a cable 100 meters high. While in the area, don’t forget to stop at one of the many huts. Local huts offer good beer, home-made grappa, dumplings, spaetzle, crafuns, and more.
In winter, everything becomes white and snow becomes the main attraction. On the one hand, San Vigilio hosts an international exhibition of ice sculptures, a veritable gallery of art in the open. On the other hand, because San Vigilio is located in the centre of the ski area Plan de Corones, it is part of the Dolomiti Superski carousel and is, therefore, a renowned destination for skiing and snowboarding. The village also hosts Ski and Snowboard School San Vigilio—the first ski school in the village, whose main office is located at the village entrance. Ski School San Vigilio has contributed significantly to the development of winter tourism in the area, providing award winning services that keep our customers coming back year after year. San Vigilio is the perfect destination for alpine skiing and snowboarding because of its beautiful slopes and easy connections to Riscone and San Martino in Badia or the famous Sella Ronda tour. While enjoying the slopes, the nearby huts are warm and welcoming, and the scent of their cuisine will surely tempt you. For fans of cross-country skiing, there is a beautiful cross-country track that passes through the forest to Pederù. You can also participate in ski tours accompanied by local guides, snowshoe to Fanes or Sennes, pedal a fat bike in the snow, toboggan on a dedicated track on Monte San Vigilio, or simply enjoy the fresh air while taking long walks towards Pederù.
